As a part of the project, Stahl installed an ice storage system to be used for the cooling of school buildings. The system was installed for energy savings and resulted in a substantial rebate from Xcel Energy. The building chiller comes on only at night, during off-peak hours, to make ice that is stored in large tanks. The glycol is sent through the tanks during the day to cool the buildings, which means the chiller doesn't run during peak hours.
