Mike Michelsen, Controller
“Mike’s ability to produce accurate reporting down to the penny despite the immense bookkeeping and many stakeholders is a huge credit to his leadership and integrity.”
As controller, Mike is our master of numbers. He oversees all company finance and leads process improvement by mapping existing processes and determining ways to improve efficiency, reduce cost, and increase the quality of our output.
Mike works to streamline the accounting process by continuously evaluating new tracking and reporting systems and eliminating paper documents related to accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and job cost. He prepares monthly financial statements, manages the completion and timely submission of all annual audit and tax-related documents, and oversees payroll and all company financial reporting.
Mike earned his degree in accounting from San Diego State University and his MBA in accounting from California State University – Fullerton through the Mihaylo College of Business and Economics. He is certified in real estate finance from the University of California Los Angeles and certified in construction management from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. He holds a current Minnesota Certified Public Accountant license.
In 2015, he was awarded the Construction Risk Insurance Specialist (CRIS) award from the International Risk Management Institute. Mike currently serves on the scholarship committee for the Construction Financial Management Association (CFMA) Twin Cities Chapter where he formerly served on the board of directors.
