PRESS RELEASE: Stahl Completes New Ankeny Kirkendall Public Library

Ankeny, IA; March 3, 2020  – Stahl completed the new two-story, 55,000-square-foot Ankeny Kirkendall Public Library in Ankeny, IA. Located at 1250 SW District Drive in the Prairie Trail development, the library also houses the city council chambers and a multi-function meeting and conference room suite.

The building features a primary mechanical system based on distributed floor mounted heat pumps fed by a geothermal well field located under the surface of the library’s parking lot. The well field consists of 126 pumps which draw from the earth’s natural and consistent temperature under the surface to heat and cool the space above the earth’s surface.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Ankeny is the 10th fastest growing city in the United States and the city has grown by more than 20,000 residents since 2010. To serve the rapidly growing northern suburb, a bond referendum was passed in May 2017 to fund the new $14 million library.

Construction started in June 2018 and was completed in February 2020.

“The Ankeny Kirkendall Public Library design is compelling and functional. Our team has had to be deeply engaged to get this project built,” said Lane Schoening, Vice President of Stahl. “Our effort resulted in a facility that will provide function and beauty for decades to come.”

The new library was designed by OPN Architects and began operating from its new location starting February 3, 2020.

The new 55,000-square-foot Ankeny Kirkendall Public Library located at 1250 SW District Drive in Ankeny, IA is now open.
