PRESS RELEASE: Stahl Continues Partnership with Ankeny Community School District
Ankeny, IA; May 21, 2020 – In anticipation of increased class sizes at the secondary level, Ankeny Community School District (CSD) hired Stahl to build two additions, one at Ankeny High School and one at Ankeny Centennial High School. Stahl will start construction of the combined $24 million additions in the summer of 2020 and complete the projects in time for the 2021 – 2022 school year. The additions will increase capacity at each school from 1,400 to 1,860 students.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Ankeny is the fastest-growing city in the Midwest and the 10th fastest in the nation. As a result, the Ankeny CSD is growing by approximately 400 students per year, most of which enroll at the elementary level.
“As one of the fastest growing districts in the state, Ankeny Schools has planned proactively to address facility needs at the secondary level in time for expected growth,” said Samantha Aukes, Ankeny CSD Communications Director. “This expansion allows us to make sound fiscal decisions in comparison to the cost of building and staffing a new facility. We look forward to beginning work on these expansion projects to best serve our students in Ankeny Schools with an instructionally supportive facility.”
Stahl is currently working with Ankeny CSD as construction manager for the new Heritage Elementary School. The District’s 101,403-square-foot, 11th elementary school will accommodate the continued growth and house 750 students ranging from kindergarten through fifth grade. The $18 million school is located off Southwest Magazine Road and South Ankeny Boulevard in the Prairie Trail development.
“It’s exciting to see the Ankeny area grow, and we are thrilled to partner with the School District on their expansion,” said Lane Schoening, Vice President of Stahl.
Stahl has previously worked with the District to build the original 285,000-square-foot Ankeny Centennial High School. The $44 million high school was completed in 2013.
