A biodigester is like a mechanical stomach. It is fed with organic materials, which is decomposed (broken down) by micro-organisms (bacteria) in an oxygen-free environment to produce a renewable energy (methane and dioxide).
We will be installing a biodigester as part of our E-Generation mixed-use project in St. Louis Park, MN. The facility will provide 80% of the energy required for the overall complex.
An early form of the biodigester was called Imhoff (1907 from Germany).
Demolition on the North site of the PLACE St. Louis Park project has begun (a process that is expected to take 4-6 weeks), and fencing is up along the site.
