Word-of-the-Month: DOAS – Dedicated Outdoor Air System
A DOAS is a type of heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) system that consists of two parallel systems: 1) a dedicated system for delivering outdoor air ventilation, and 2) a parallel system to handle the loads generated by indoor / process sources and those that pass through the building enclosure.
The benefit of this method is the load reduction of local HVAC units in hotels, which would otherwise be providing cooling in the guestrooms and public spaces. The reduction not only lowers electrical costs but also extends equipment life.
A full DOAS can result in an annual HVAC energy cost savings ranging from 21% – 38%.
A DOAS is a common method used in hospitality projects around the country.
