Word-of-the-Month: Housekeeping Pad
A housekeeping pad, also referred to as a concrete pad, is a slab of concrete used to elevate a pump and facilitate anchoring bolts. Pumps are not typically anchored directly to the floor; therefore, housekeeping pads provide a solid anchor to protect the pump and motor from shallow floods and floor cleaners and to shield them from moving machinery.
Typically, housekeeping pads are four inches high, but their height depends on the size of the anchor bolt being used. Also, they usually extend past the pump six inches to provide room for servicing the pump.
Mechanical equipment sits atop a housekeeping pad at the new 55,000-square-foot Kirkendall Public Library in Ankeny, IA. Stahl began construction in June 2018, and the project is scheduled for completion in January 2020.
