Word-of-the-Month: Board Formed Concrete
Board formed concrete walls are created when concrete is placed in forms that are lined with wood. The concrete cures against the grain of the wood, revealing a textured appearance when the forms are removed. A variety of looks can be achieved, depending on the type and size of wood that is used and the gap between the boards.
Stahl Construction is currently building a new chalet facility at the Hyland Ski & Snowboard Area in Bloomington for Three Rivers Park District. The design of the new two-story, 36,000-square-foot chalet features board formed concrete walls to provide visual interest to an often overlooked building component.
