Urban Research and Outreach Ctr. | renovation
In a unique partnership, Stahl and MN Best Enterprises teamed to provide construction management services to the University of Minnesota for the renovation of the former Plymouth-Penn shopping center in North Minneapolis into the Urban Research and Outreach Center (UROC).
This 22,000-SF building is home to a number of community / university partnership programs: The Center for Early Education & Development's 500 Under Five-Kindergarten readiness program, in partnership with Northside families; University Northside Partnership Office; University of Minnesota Extension's programs in urban youth development, nutrition education, family development and master gardening; University of Minnesota Medical School's program in health disparities; Center for Innovation and Economic Development and UROC administrative offices.
The WMBE goal on this project was 30% and actual WMBE inclusion of 34% exceeded that goal. The skilled workforce numbers through August were: 17 black males, 24 Hispanic males, nine Asian-American males, three American Indian males, and six females.
The project is also part of the University of Minnesota’s Buildings, Benchmarks & Beyond (B3) Project for sustainability.
