ISU Biorenewables Research Lab | new construction
Iowa State University's Biorenewables Research Laboratory is a new 73,000 SF LEED Gold Certified facility that is the first phase of a $99 million Biorenewables Complex. This new “green” building serves as the headquarters for ISU's Bioeconomy Institute, and provides a home for several biorenewables programs developed by the ISU faculty.
Unique sustainable elements include a recycled water cistern that collects rain water for reuse in toilets, a green roof and a heat recovery system that collects exhaust from lab fume-hoods and recycles it to be used throughout the building.
Other “green” measures that helped to achieve LEED Gold Certification include construction waste management, the use of water-efficient landscaping and building designs, support of alternative transportation, use of regionally sourced materials, daylighting, views and light harvesting, the use of recycled content in building materials, building efficiency / thermal comfort, on-site recycling and green housekeeping.
