Mounds View Public Schools | addition / renovation
Stahl was hired as the construction manager to oversee 1.4 million SF of renovations and 230,000 SF of additions to 13 schools in the Mounds View School District. This program in its entirety included eight elementary schools, three middle schools, and two high schools.
At the height of construction, eight projects were under way simultaneously, each staffed with an on-site field superintendent, and in some cases multiple superintendents. Each project consisted of multiple phases, and nearly all schools remained occupied during construction.
The building program set out to improve indoor air quality, enhance building security, compensate for overcrowding, adhere to fire marshall mandates, and address bus/car safety issues at each of the schools in the Mounds View School District.
All schools in the district were switched to a Desiccant Based Cooling System (DBC) which has rooftop units that clean and dry the air entering the building in order to inhibit mold growth inside the buildings. Carpet and ductwork insulation was also removed to inhibit mold growth.
Special features of the entire building program include a 500-seat auditorium, four new gymnasiums, new science lab classrooms, and new athletic fields.
