Stahl Construction was presented with the 2009 MNCREW Industry Innovator Award on Wednesday, March 18th. This award recognizes Stahl’s mentorship / partnership with MN BEST Enterprises, Inc.; a local, minority, women-owned contractor (8a, CERT, MMSDC and DBE certified) that provides general contracting, construction management and maintenance services for both residential and commercial building projects.
This collaboration began in the fall of 2008 when Cathy Schmidt, (MNCREW member) president of Stahl Construction; Hyon Kim, CEO of MN BEST and Song Fawcett, vice president of MN BEST met to discuss partnership opportunities. Through a relationship of shared mutual respect the two companies secured contracts with the Minneapolis Public Housing Authority (MPHA) and the University of Minnesota for the Urban Research and Outreach Center (UROC).
Stahl Construction is now working closely with MN BEST to mentor them in the areas of project management and field supervision for the UROC project while MN BEST is incorporating Stahl into activities where needed on the MPHA project. In addition, Stahl recently conducted a LEED® AP training session for MN BEST staff to learn what LEED is all about and how to study for the LEED AP test.
