Hilton Tru / Home2 Suites

Renovation of a vacant 8-story office building built in 1900 (formerly known as the Western Union Bank Building and the William E. Magee Building) with a new 41,129 SF 8-story addition (steel stud /precast plank). The new hotel is a Hilton dual-brand consisting of 201 guestrooms with public spaces.

The site was so logistically limited in size in the heart of downtown Minneapolis, that the crane pad was located within the footprint of the new building while the project was built up around it. The two largest challenges with this project were the existence of lead-based paint and asbestos that needed to be remediated and, the extension of one of two building elevators required to go down to the basement level and be enlarged enough to receive a stretcher to comply with new code requirements.
