Kirkendall Public Library

Stahl completed the new two-story, $14 million Ankeny Kirkendall Public Library in Ankeny, IA. Located in the Prairie Trail development, the library also houses the city council chambers and a multi-function meeting and conference room suite.

The 55,000-square-foot building features a primary mechanical system based on distributed floor mounted heat pumps fed by a geothermal well field located under the surface of the library’s parking lot. The well field consists of 126 pumps which draw from the earth’s natural and consistent temperature under the surface to heat and cool the space above the earth’s surface.

The new library was completed in February 2020
